How (and Why) to Add Your Business or Organization

Some years ago I helped our local Chamber of Commerce migrate their web site to a content management system. One of the features was a directory of local businesses, which has since become a basic service from most Chambers and tourism promotion sites.

It turns out that keeping all that information updated and accurate requires a lot of time and effort - and it costs money, whether paid staff or outsourced. We had our share of frustrated members because we just couldn't keep up.

It's better to let business owners and organizations manage their own content, for free.

But a simple directory can't help plan special events, share and collaborate on documents and web pages, or dynamically generate links to your business - easy tools you can use to help people find you.

That's what Connect is for, and here's how to get started...

Connect Adirondacks review "Book Sale a Great Success" (5/5)

Thanks to being able to add community events on Connect, sales at the Chester Library's recent book sale far surpassed all results previously. We had a record number of buyers, and there was a steady stream of customers for the two days of the event (July 17 & 18). Proceeds from the sale topped what we had done in the past, and of course, the crew that worked hard to set up, categorize and label the books are elated! All proceeds go help the Friends of the Library continue to offer educational

Connect Adirondacks review "Best service" (4/5)

Adirondack Internet offers truly personalized service 24/7. They continue to work with us to get the best possible wireless service and are available weekends and holidays. This is invaluable for a second home when we are heavy weekend users of the service. It is cheaper than Verizon and can be turned on and off as needed for a further savings. If you can catch their wireless signal go for it.

Connect Adirondacks review "A great site!" (5/5)

I just want to say that this is the first Connect site that I know of that hasn't been built or somehow sponsored by the developers. I think it looks great, and is the perfect example of what we hoped Connect would be used for.

We're really happy that it seems to suit your needs and that it is getting some real use. Keep up the good work; building a community takes time and effort!
